A forensic expert based in the U.S. deposed before the special court through video conferencing on Tuesday and identified parts of the bikes used by the accused to kill journalist J. Dey in 2011.

Special Public Prosecutor Pradeep Gharat examined Dr. Edward Burns and asked him to identify parts of two bikes recovered after Dey was shot dead. The murder was carried out allegedly at the behest of gangster Chhota Rajan, who was arrested on October 25, 2015.

Mr. Gharat said that Dr. Burns identified the number plates and licence plates of the bikes seen in CCTV footage of the spot. Dr. Burns said that they matched with the parts seized by the police from Powai. Mr. Gharat said Dr. Burns’s deposition matched what was recorded in the report submitted to the police, which is also part of the charge sheet.

The prosecution has closed it’s evidence. Two witnesses, a ballistic expert and a DCP, will soon be cross-cross examined before special judge S.S. Adkar.

Earlier, retired assistant police inspector Tukaram Deolkar, MLA Sunil Raut, three journalists, two relatives of two accused and two independent witnesses were declared hostile in the case.
