That is according to Sky Sports pundit and former Manchester United defender Phil Neville.
Mkhitaryan has been left out recent United squads and has not started a game since November 5.
The Armenian is linked with a January exit and a possible return to Borussia Dortmund.
He has been named on the bench for the Carabao Cup quarter-final clash away to Bristol City this evening.
He has unbelievable quality but I think he needs to start producing in terms of his performances
Neville says it is a good opportunity for him to prove to Jose Mourinho he should be playing if he comes off the bench.
Neville is also looking forward to seeing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who will make his first start since April following a serious knee injury.
“Well it will be interesting to see if Ibrahimovic plays tonight,” he said.
“We’ve seen little glimpses of him as a substitute, has he looked back to full fitness? Not yet.
