Panaji: Chief minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday launched e-TEOR, a facility on the collectorate website, that makes birth and death certificates registered between 1914 and 1970 available to citizen at the click of a button.
Parrikar told reporters that around 18 lakh documents registered in the period 1914-1970 have been digitized. Right from 2005 people have been demanding that these documents be digitised and today their demands have been meet, the CM said.
"These documents can be accessed by Goans worldwide, however certification can presently be done in only five talukas, including Tiswadi, Bardez, Salcete, Mormugao and Ponda," Parrikar said, adding that from January 26 certification will be done in all 12 talukas.
There were complaints about these old documents getting destroyed or damaged due to excess handling of the registration books and the government had assured of digitising the documents.
"We have scanned and digitised available documents," Parrikar said.
The directorate of planning, statistics and evaluation has introduced the module in association with the directorate of archives and archaeology, registration department, department of information and technology and Goa Electronics Limited.
Every citizen who wants to get a birth/death record will have to register themselves on the web portal, www.goaonline.gov.in by providing basic information, including name, address, mobile number, date of birth and e-mail ID.
On successful registration, the citizen can log in using their credentials and enter basic details to search birth/death records. Upon successful search, citizens can view and download a non-certified birth teor copy on a real time basis.
