Zainab Johnson brings biting humor but also a sense of warmth to her comedy — both honed growing up as one of 13 siblings in a Muslim family in New York.

Relationships, body-image issues and Beyoncé’s inability to act have all made it into her stand-up routine, which she has shared on HBO’s “All Def Comedy” and NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.”

Now Johnson plans to bring the laughs to the South Bay, scheduled to perform several sets at the San Jose Improv from Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 21-23.

She returns to the Bay Area for the 17th annual SF Sketchfest in January and San Francisco’s Punch Line comedy club in February.
