A new Market and Media Research survey shows high general satisfaction with Iceland’s new government. In total 66.7 percent of respondents stated they supported the governing coalition of the Independence Party, Progressive Party and Left-Green Movement. This is more support than any government has enjoyed since the banking collapse and especially remarkable as only 48 percent say they would vote for one of the three governing parties. RÚV reported first.

In the survey, which was conducted from December 12th to 15th, The Independence Party received the most public support, or 23.2 percent. The Social Democratic Alliance and the Left-Green Movement follow with just under 17 percent support each. This is a 3.7 percent increase for the Left-Green Movement. Support for the Pirate Party has increased by 4.2 percent while support for the People’s Party has decreased by 4.7 percent.

The Centre Party, Progressive Party, and Reform Party all showed a decrease in support.
