Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer stopped midspeech to issue a sharp rebuke of Republicans just after midnight Wednesday mere minutes before the Senate voted on the Republican tax overhaul plan.

Speaking on the Senate floor, the senator from New York was expressing his dismay with the legislation, which was expected to pass within the next hour.

Schumer briefly paused and asked for order as he looked over his shoulder and appeared to call out Republicans who were talking while he was delivering his remarks.

"This is serious stuff. We believe you're messing up America. You could pay attention for a couple of minutes," Schumer said.

Senate Republicans are poised to pass their major overhaul of the tax code, including a $1.5 trillion tax cut, leaving only the House to vote one last time on it Wednesday morning before it is sent to President Trump’s desk for his signature.

All Democrats in the Senate are expected to vote against it, as they did in the House.
