GURGAON: To encourage residents to clear their property tax dues, the MCG has offered a 10% rebate on such payments for the current financial year. However, the rebate is only applicable on payments made before December 31.
The information on the pending property tax for 2017-18 is available on MCG's website. And it's currently reflecting the revised amount with 10% deduction.

"We have received payments from 47,863 property owners for the current financial year till December 18. Of this, around 60% of the property tax payments have been made through the online portal," said MCG commissioner V Umashankar.

The total number of property owners who made the payments online are 30,080. The commissioner also urged people to adopt online mode for property tax payments.

"We would urge people to make their payments online for the convenience of both the residents and the corporation workers," said Umashankar.

TOI had earlier reported that MCG has seen a double-fold increase in property tax collections between December 2016 and December 2017 and the same period the year before. While the collections between December 2015 and 2016 were recorded at Rs 177.40 crore, the same between December 2016 and December 2017 were Rs 378.29 crore.

The percentage increase in property tax collections comes to around 114%, which, according to officials, is significant increase and probably the highest-ever since the corporation was formed.

In February this year, the state government offered 25% refund and a one-time interest waiver on tax dues and arrears till the end of the current financial year (2016-17).

An additional 1% rebate was also offered on all digital payments.

The rebate has positively led to a significant increase in the property tax collections, with the municipal body collecting Rs 367.5 crore in the months after the rebate was introduced.

The rebate in property taxes was supported by continuous property tax collection drives, sealing of properties and auctioning at one occasion.

Officials within the taxation department of the corporation said the tax collections in this year have been much more stringent and sealing of properties in specific has been very effective in getting people to clear their dues. In many cases, sealing has been followed by auctioning as well.

In November, MCG had auctioned three properties worth Rs 3.87 crore. And another 102 properties are up for auction on December 28 this month for non-payment of property taxes.

Earlier MCG also sealed a couple of residential properties in sectors 69 and 70.
