Peak power demand in Delhi this winter is expected to be around 4300 MW and the two BSES discoms in the Capital are planning to ensure that adequate power is available during winters, the company said on Tuesday. Also, considering the peack demand in summer, the power major is also exporting, banking surplus electricity with other States so that it can meet summer demand.
A senior official of BSES said, “Last winter, the peak power demand in BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd. (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Ltd. (BYPL) areas had reached to 4168 MW. Besides long-term arrangements, we are using advanced techniques to dispose off surplus power and also making arrangements to get power during summer as well.
“In case of any unforeseeable contingency, BSES discoms will buy short-term power from the exchange which is available at economical rates.”
BRPL is banking around 450 MW with Himachal Pradesh, 20 MW Tamil Nadu and around 50 MW with Sikkim while BYPL is banking around 240 MW with J&K, Meghalaya and Jharkhand, he added.
“To manage the peak demand, BYPL will also be receiving 50-100 MW from UP between Dec 2017 and Feb 2017 to manage the morning peak demand,” official said.
He said the BSES uses a mix of in-house advanced statistical forecasting models, combined with rich domain expertise and state-of-the-art weather forecasting solutions for the benefit of its consumers and to better meet power challenges. “This accurate day ahead, intraday and medium term demand forecasting is vital for optimal and cost effective power planning, ensuring reliable power supply,” he said.
