Jailed gangsters’ role to be probed in many killings

| | Haridwar | in Dehradun

While questioning two sharpshooters arrested recently, Haridwar police have become convinced that some dreaded gangsters, now cooling their heels behind the prison bars of Roshanabad jail, are instrumental in contract killings which are happening in the district and elsewhere.

They are running their extortion racket while tasking contract killers with murders, robberies and the like, a senior district police officer said. Out on bail, these criminals continue with their murderous errands, he added.

Haridwar police have recently nabbed two sharpshooters Nitin and Mukim who were out to do away with a property dealer based in Dehradun. Nitin was out on bail in a case of conspiracy to murder. Quizzed over the revelation,  Haridwar SSP Krishna Kumar V K said that the police are on the lookout for the hideouts of such  miscreants. Besides, they are keeping vigil on the movements of those out on bail.

Meanwhile, additional director general of police Ashok Kumar informed that the duo was nabbed by the Haridwar police in possession of a stolen motorcycle, a pistol, a country-made handgun and live rounds. During questioning, the two revealed that they had spent some months with known criminal Jitti Rawat in the Haridwar jail and on his directions, they were going to murder property dealer Pankaj at his office in Dehradun. Further, Nitin Jain who is in jail had given the two a contract to murder an industrialist in Haridwar and another person in Landhaura, said Kumar.
