IPL auctions on January 27, 28 in Bengaluru
pune: The mega auctions of the Indian Premier League's 11th edition will be held in Bengaluru on January 27 and 28. The news was confirmed by a senior BCCI official. "Since most of the capped players will be back in auction, it will be a mega auction that will be held in Bengaluru on January 27 and 28. Since Bengaluru has been hosting all previous auctions, that was the choice of franchises," a senior BCCI official said on Tuesday. This year's auction will see teams having an increased budget of Rs 80 crore from previous Rs 66 crore. In all five players can be retained by a franchise, which includes two Right to Match cards.
Vidarbha fight against Karnataka in ranji
new delhi: Ganesh Satish's unbeaten half-century and a brisk 49 from Apoorv Wankhade helped Vidarbha wipe out the first-innings deficit and go ahead by 79 runs in their Ranji Trophy semifinal against Karnataka here on Tuesday. The third day's play ended with Vidarbha reaching 195 for four. At stumps, Satish was going strong on 71 while Akshay Wadkar was batting on 19. Sreenath Aravind was the pick of the Karnataka bowlers, claiming two wickets. The 83-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Satish and Wankhade ensured Vidarbha get some runs to defend. After losing in-form opener Faiz Fazal — the second highest run getter in Ranji trophy this season — for a duck, their innings was somewhat steadied by the experienced Wasim Jaffer (33).
De Villiers, Steyn back in Test squad
Johannesburg: AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn were on Tuesday named in a 14-man squad for South Africa's one-off day-night Test against Zimbabwe, starting in Port Elizabeth on December 26. Batsman De Villiers has not played Test cricket since January 2016 while fast bowler Steyn suffered a fractured shoulder in a Test against Australia in November 2016 and only returned to competitive cricket last month. New ball bowler Vernon Philander is also back after missing a recent series against Bangladesh because of a back injury. South Africa's top four fast bowlers are reunited, with Morne Morkel having recovered from an injury he suffered during the first Test against Bangladesh.
India thrash Nepal 10-0 in SAFF Championships
New Delhi: Priyanka Devi and Sunita Munda struck hat-tricks as India's under-15 women's football team scored five goals in each half to thump Nepal 10-0 in the SAFF Championship here on Tuesday. Hat-tricks by Priyanka Devi and Sunita Munda were complimented by a brace from Lynda Kom, with goals from Santhiya and Anay Bayi completing the rout. Lynda Kom had opened the scoring in the fourth minute as India went on to pile the pressure on their northern neighbours. But the scoreline didn't reflect the dominance until Lynda opened the floodgate with her second strike in the 32nd minute. The first half also saw three more goals being pumped into the Nepal net as Sunita Munda, Santhiya and Priyanka.
