Markle mania got you craving all things royal? Ever since the latest royal engagement was announced, the U.K., America, and beyond have been inundated with scenes from the real-life fairy tale unfolding between Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. Add in our ongoing love of Prince William, Kate, their adorable children — and (of course) the Queen herself — and you’ve got a flood of royally fantastic encounters to watch out for daily.
Although we now know exactly when and where Prince Harry and Meghan will wed, we’ve got quite a long time to wait until the royal nuptials take place. Until then, however, we’ve got the perfect plan to tide you over: binge-watching royal-related programming (while sipping on tea and munching biscuits, of course).
Thankfully, Netflix has us covered when it comes to fairy tale entertainment. While some of these films and television shows will reveal the true inner workings of various royal families, some are the best kind of fluff, letting us live inside a fairy tale full of crowns, ball gowns, and handsome princes. Whichever you choose, we know you’re in for a royally good time.
The Crown (2016-)
This Netflix original drama about the reign of Queen Mary II has captivated viewers everywhere with its captivating (and largely true) stories of the royal family. Now in its second season starring Claire Foy, the series will cast new actresses to play the Queen in her later years in upcoming seasons of the show.
'A Christmas Prince' (2017)
So addictive that 53 people allegedly watched it every day for 18 consecutive days, this Netflix original movie is everything you could ever want out of a cheesy holiday love story. A handsome prince, an unexpected romance, and a gorgeous snowy castle in Europe make the perfect backdrop for hot cocoa in front of the fire this holiday season.
Versailles (2015-)
This “steamy” period drama focuses on the private lives of King Louis XIV and his court during the construction of the Palace of Versailles in 1667. The big-budget BBC series promises murder, sex, and lots of intrigue.
'The Queen' (2006)
This acclaimed film won Helen Mirren an Academy Award for her performance as Queen Elizabeth II. It addresses the aftermath of Princess Diana’s death in 1997 and offers a fascinating inside look at the Royal Family.
'The Young Victoria' (2009)
This British period drama film stars Emily Blunt in the title role of Queen Victoria during the 19th century. Focusing on her early life, her marriage, and her reign, it features an ensemble cast of characters including some of Britain’s most beloved actors.
The Tudors (2007-2010)
This historical fiction series is set in 1500s England and focuses on the reign of King Henry VIII. The show is as full of drama and romance as you could hope for, and even features a pre-Superman Henry Cavill and pre-Game of Thrones Natalie Dormer.
'A Cinderella Story' (2004)
This timeless Hilary Duff masterpiece stars a young Chad Michael Murray in every 15-year-old girl’s favorite fairy tale romance. Although there aren’t any actual royals involved, the film is a (very) updated version of "Cinderella," featuring an evil stepmother, two “ugly” stepsisters, and a sought-after “prince.”
'Beauty and the Beast' (2017)
The live-action version of a Disney classic stars Emma Watson as Belle, the kind, “strange,” bookworm who teaches a cold-hearted beast (who’s really a prince) to love again. P.S. Try the gray stuff, it’s delicious.
