Two Kashmiri youths attacked for not speaking in Kannada

A student and his brother were allegedly attacked here by a group of people for not speaking in Kannada, police said.

The incident occurred a week ago but came to light only yesterday, police said today.


"We arrested two persons by name and Harish for attacking the boys. Both are now out on bail," Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Chetan SinghRathor said.

A friend of the victims, requesting anonymity, said the student, studying in a college here, and his brother were returning home in a car on the wee hours of December 11 when a phone call came.

As he stopped the car and started talking over phone,two motorcycle-borne youths reached there and asked them something in Kannada.

The student told them that he did not know Kannada. Making itan issue, the youth insisted that they speak in Kannada.

"and his brother objected, the youth called a few more people and started hitting them with stones. They even damaged their car," said the friend.

The two suffered injuries in the incident and treated at a nearby hospital.
