Where is The League of Gentlemen filmed? Where is the set? Where is Royston Vasey?

THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN returned to the BBC yesterday after 15 years off the screen but where is the show set and where was it filmed?

Where is League of Gentlemen filmed?

The latest series of the BBC black comedy was filmed in Manchester and the Peak District.

These episodes were shot back in September this year, shortly after it was announced that the programme would be making a comeback for its 20th anniversary.

The League of Gentlemen was previously filmed in Hadfield, Derbyshire; Glossop, Gamesley; Marsden and Todmorden in West Yorkshire; the Hope Valley in Derbyshire; Bacup in Lancashire; and Mottram in Greater Manchester.

Hadfield in particular was used by programme-makers who transformed the village’s shopfronts for the show.

The local fishmonger’s become a veterinary surgery, while an empty estate agent was turned into a dating agency and a handicraft emporium was repurposed as a joke shop.

HOW MANY EPISODES ARE IN THE NEW SERIES OF LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN?

The show is set in the isolated Northern town of Royston Vasey which has a sinister set of residents.

Royston Vasey is said to be based on Bacup in Lancashire.

Among the inhabitants of Royston Vasey are local shop owners Edward and Tubbs Tattsyrup, vet Mr Chinnery and Harvey Dentonand and his wife Val along with their sinister twins.

Will there be another series of League of Gentlemen?

So far the BBC has not announced another series but the first episode from the new series has got an overwhelmingly positive response from fans when it aired last night.

In a recent interview, Pemberton said about the League of Gentlemen: “We felt we wanted to revisit the place, we wanted to catch up with the characters, we wanted to see how time had treated them and whether anything had changed.

“And we genuinely didn’t know. The good thing is that we didn’t overthink it to start with. We said, ‘Let’s just go away, think of a character and start writing some scenes.”

He added: “So the reason we’re doing it is not because we’re desperate to relaunch The League of Gentlemen and keep doing it.

“The reason we’re doing it is to enjoy to serve something up for the fans of the show and they will hopefully enjoy and to enjoy being in each other’s company again and we’ve achieved that so far.

“But also the warmth with which it’s been embraced: the news that it’s coming back.”

The League of Gentlemen continues on BBC Two tonight at 10pm.
