A health minister made a condom pun in the Commons as he advised men to wrap up this Christmas.

Steve Brine's advice came amid calls for the Department of Health to ensure young people are aware of the benefits of safe sex.

Mr Brine said: "Men may not be very good at wrapping at this time of year but they need to get this one right.

"Can I welcome (Public Health England's) Protect Against STIs campaign launched last week to help reduce rates among 16 to 24 year olds, and can I encourage young people that while they're having fun this Christmas to do so sensibly."

Conservative Mims Davies (Eastleigh) had told Mr Brine: "Half of young people do not use a condom with a new partner. One in 10 young adults never use a condom, giving a chance of an unwanted pregnancy or indeed an STD.

"Please can the department do something about making sure people are aware of the benefits."
