Heavy snow in Germany creates travel woes

Heavy snowfall morning led to considerable obstructions for road and air traffic in western and southwestern parts of Germany. At least 170 flights had to be cancelled at Frankfurt airport, while numerous incoming flights were redirected. Many trucks were stuck on snow-covered highways and had to wait for snowplows and gritting vehicles to make the roads usable. Many commuters had to endure mile-long traffic jams during the morning.
