GURUGRAM: A city lawyer has alleged being duped of Rs5 lakh by a couple based in Agra under the pretext of arranging visa and a job for him abroad.
Kanwar Sohit, a resident of Sector 30, says he contacted Navneet Singh and his wife Navneet Kaur in response to an advertisement allegedly given by them in a newspaper. The accused claimed that his brothers ran a business in Australia and Canada and could arrange for Sohit to get a job there and also provide visas for three additional people, all for Rs9 lakh.
The accused visited complainant's home on many occasions with his family and took Rs4.8 lacs in total via bank transfer and cash but soon his fraud came to the fore.
"To gain my trust he sent me WhatsApp messages highlighting a passport number for which visa was cleared. I found that he had used the same passport for two different visas and that made me suspicious. Having got nothing from him in over and a half year, I asked him to return my passport and money. He said he would payback by 20th May 2017. When this deadline expired he requested for some more time. To show that he was serious about paying me back, he said that he would sell his car. Later, I found that due to bank loan and non-payment of EMI he was unable to do that as well. After this failed attempt, he sent me a picture of paper advertisement given by him, for the sale of his paternal house in Agra. Not a single rupees was returned and finally I approached the police," Sohit said in his complaint. An FIR has been registered against the husband-wife under section 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) at Sector 40 police station. "We are investigating the matter. The accused will be arrested soon", said inspector Sudhir Kumar, SHo, Sector 40 police station.
