New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi is at it again – unpredictable that he has been always.
A day after Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh results reverses his party faced, Rahul Gandhi slipped into a movie theatre along with his four friends to watch a Hollywood movie and that too at a time when his demoralized party workers were looking at him for much-needed solace.
The newly-elected Congress President once again gave an impression of being a part-time politician. In place of analysing the poll defeat in the two states and boosting the confidence of his party workers who toiled really hard to give a tough competition to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at least in Gujarat, he chose to chill out with four of his friends watching ‘Star Wars’.
He even did not take any inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who despite having the trust of 73 per cent of country’s population after retaining Gujarat and winning Himachal, was busy thanking the BJP workers and boosting their morale.
His unprofessional attitude exposes his unwillingness to stay connected to the people of the states where polls will take place only after five years.
During the poll campaigns in Gujarat, Rahul impressively had held 57 rallies, but he is yet to find some time to pay a single visit to Gujarat after the results were announced.
On the other hand, BJP is busy introspecting, which can be understood by PM Modi’s statement after winning the polls in which he appealed the people of his homeland to forget the bygones and unite for a better Gujarat.

BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao says, “Though it is totally upon Rahul what he wants to do on a given day, but it only tells you about his work ethics.”
“PM Modi works 19 hours a day and does not take a holiday. When elections are not there, he is focused on his job. He thinks about every issue – how to make a change, how to bring about a reform…PM Modi is a workaholic and all the time he is focussed on his job as the PM. Rahul Gandhi works one-third of PM Modi’s efficiency,” he added.
Many may argue that it is Rahul’s call what he does in his personal life, but over 41 per cent population of Gujarat which voted for Congress in the recently concluded elections to make the party win 80 seats had surely relied on the 47-year-old ‘young politician’ as a more matured leader who would work hard to transform this ‘moral victory’ into a ‘political win’.
This, however, is not new for Rahul Gandhi as he has missed some major events in the past also.
Here are some such instances:
- During the first Budget Session of the NDA government, he went missing for 56 days enjoying vacations in some part of the world.
- He was also missing from the 130th foundation day celebration of the Congress party in December 2014.
- He also gave a miss to the farewell dinner hosted by his mother Sonia Gandhi for the then PM Manmohan Singh in May 2014.
- He was also missing when Meira Kumar filed her nomination papers as the presidential candidate of the Opposition camp on June 28, 2017.
