LUDHIANA Division no.8 police have booked three persons (including a woman) under charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust, as they took rupees four lakh from a man on the pretext of getting his son and daughter-in-law government jobs. However, neither got a job, nor was their money returned. The accused have been identified as
Ramandeep Kaur of Patiala, Balwinder Singh — a retired superintendent at
Punjab Secretariat in Chandigarh — of Fatehgarh Sahib, and Baljinder Singh of Sahnewal. The FIR has been lodged on the complaint of Balwinder Singh of Sandhu Nagar, Ludhiana, who is a reader at the district courts here.
In his complaint to the police, Balwinder said his son and daughter-in-law were graduate sportspersons, and he wanted them to get government jobs. Through his lawyer friend, he got in touch with Ramandeep — claiming to have links with senior officials in Chandigarh — who assured he would get his son and daughter-in-law government jobs. He added that Ramandeep got him to meet the accused Balwinder and Baljinder, who asked him Rs10 lakh for doing the job. As token money, the complainant gave Ramandeep rupees five lakh though cheques and cash, while the remaining amount was to be given after getting appointment letters within a month.
Further, the complainant said when the accused failed to get them jobs, he started pressurizing him to return his money. The accused, thus, gave them two cheques which bounced. After this, a complaint was lodged by the reader with the police in March this year. After the complaint, Ramandeep returned rupees one lakh to the complainant. Kulwinder Singh said the police had registered a case under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC against the accused, after investigation.
