Well-known Journalist Ian Boyne passed away yesterday morning at the University of West Indies Hospital.

His death came just two weeks after he was hospitalised with what was termed a medical emergency.

His family asked for privacy. However, after reportedly being in a coma, Boyne was released after receiving treatment and was at home recovering from his illness.

Boyne, who was the deputy chief executive officer of the Jamaica Information Service (JIS), entered the field of journalism in 1975 and rose to prominence as the face of the long-running television programme Profile and later JIS's Issues and Answers and Television Jamaica's Religious Hard Talk.

Boyne was also a Gleaner columnist.

He was recognised for his contribution to journalism in 2009, when he was given the Commander of the Order of Distinction (CD) by the Government of Jamaica.

Outside of being a media practitioner, he was also an author and a minister of religion.

Following his passing, numerous persons took to social media to express sadness at his passing, as well as shared how he and his programmes impacted their lives.
