New NIO ES8 electric SUV is a cheaper Tesla Model X
THE new NIO ES8 is an all-electric SUV that will look to undercut the Tesla Model X.
NIO
NIO has revealed the new ES8 all-electric SUV.
The Chinese electric car manufacturer has launched the new seven-seat SUV with a very competitive price.
ES8 will cost 448,000 yuan which is around £50,500 after Government incentives, which makes it almost half the price of a Tesla Model X own China.
It features an all-allumniium body and chassis, air suspension and all-wheel driver - all things also found on the Model X.
Powering the SUV are motors mounted on each axle and a 70kWh battery pack.
This allows the car to sprint from zero-62mph in just 4.4 seconds.
The standard model will boast range of around 220-miles NEDC on a single charge and there is also a version with 311-miles of range.
An innovative new feature of the car that could solve one of the biggest problems with EVs is its battery swap technology.
NIO
Owners of the NIO will be able to change the car’s battery at power-swap stations in three minutes.
Drivers can also charge the battery from a unique service vehicle that travels to you.
Dotted around the car are a number of sensors and camera which allow the car to have some self-driving capabilities.
NIO
When the car goes on sale, the first 10,000 will be the Founders Edition series which cost around £61,800 each.
NIO claims that these vehicles have all already been bought out by customers.
It is being manufactured for the Chinese market but there is nob official world on whether ES8 will make its way to Europe or the USA.
