The 55-year-old worked on ArkAngel, which sees a paranoid parent get her daughter chipped.

However, the actress suggested the plot is about a lot more than technology and is really following the “complicated details” of a mother and daughter bond.

Jodie explained the story behind the episode saying: “This is a mother-daughter story – a mother would like to keep her child safe.

“She has all of the paranoias that sometimes new parents have, and she finds this device that allows her to figure out a way to keep her child safe, and it may require an implant. She’s going for it,” she told The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

The filmmaker also gushed about the hit Netflix series, adding: “Black Mirror is a beautiful show. It’s sort of like The Twilight Zone – each episode is like a little movie [with] a different cast, in a different place in the world.

“This particular one really feels like an indie film… that’s about the complicated little details between a mother and daughter."

New episodes for Black Mirror will be made available on Netflix later this month. 

Each story will feature its own cast of unique characters and will explore techno-paranoia. 

Black Mirror season four will return to Netflix on December 29.
