LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Electrifying India

| | Noida

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Move to clean vehicles” (December 18). Though it is not easy to replicate Norway in terms of bringing cleaner technology and electrical vehicles but surely, India can take a leaf out of Norway’s experience and bring in the much-needed changes. Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari’s constituency Nagpur has been provided decent infrastructure to run electric cars and taxis. The same needs to be replicated across the country.

I agree with the views expressed in the editorial that only making right noises is not going to help as necessary policy changes must be undertaken and greater sops must be given to automobile manufacturers because it is these companies who are at the receiving end whenever there is an adverse policy change by the Government, like the one-step jump in Bharat Stage fuel.

Also, cost of hybrid vehicles should be reduced to bring it at par with other vehicles so that it becomes viable purchase for the end users. And once these automobile manufacturers are motivated and incentivised to produce more cleaner vehicles, we would have made a huge stride in our objective to bring greener and cleaner cars to the country.
