COLVA: Public prosecutor Jerry
Costa has objected to the application made for the release of a scooter used in the
murder of British national, Danielle
Maria Theresa McLaughlin, that has been attached by the police.
The accused was arrested by Canacona police on May 14, a day after McLaughlin's body was found by a farmer while passing through open fields.
Surekha Bhagat, mother of the accused person, has moved an application for the release of the scooter, which, she said, belonged to her husband.
Objecting to the release, Costa submitted that the vehicle was used in the commission of the crime, that there are traces of evidence on it and if released, the evidence will be destroyed.
In another development in the same case,
Andrea Brannigan, mother of the deceased woman, moved an intervention application to assist the prosecution during the course of trial. Costa gave his no-objection to the application. The defence advocate has sought time to present his arguments before the charge and hence the case has been adjourned to December 28.
