Malegaon Blast Case: Lt Col Purohit plea dismissed by Bombay High Court

MUMBAI: The Bombay High Court on Monday dismissed petitions filed by Lt Col Prasad Purohit and Sameer Kulkarni, accused in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case, challenging sanction granted by the Maharashtra government under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

Purohit and Kulkarni had in their petitions said that under the UAPA, the state law and judiciary department, which is the sanctioning authority, has to seek a report from an appropriate authority.

NIA counsel Sandesh Patil, however, raised objection to the petition’s maintainability and said the petitioners have already raised these contentions in the trial court in their discharge pleas. The court accepted Patil’s arguments and dismissed the petitions.
