Dehradun police have arrested a truck driver identified as Devendra Kumar Saini, native of Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh, currently living in Patelnagar, on the charge of running over two persons- Kamal Ram, a native of Rudraprayag and Sonu Kumar of Dehradun- whose bodies were found at Sant Nirankari Satsang Bhawan on Friday. Police have also arrested the owner of the truck identified as Govind Prasad Dangwal, resident of Patelnagar, for trying to protect the accused. While being grilled by police, the accused is learnt to have admitted his crime. A case under section 304 of IPC was registered against the accused in the Nehru Colony police station while a case under section 212 of IPC was registered against the truck owner Dangwal. Police acted after the family members of the deceased registered complaints and a case under sections 302 of IPC was registered against unidentified persons in the Nehru Colony police station. During police interrogation, Saini said that on Thursday night, due to poor visibility caused by fog he had hit Sonu while driving the truck and then hit Kamalram while unloading the truck. Saini then informed the truck owner Dangwal stating that two bodies were lying at construction site. Dangwal had told him to unload the truck and return to the his office. Saini then reached Dangwal's office and slept. Dangwal had not informed the police about the incident.
A team led by RK Farswan comprising police station in-charge Rajesh Sah and SOG in-charge PD Bhatt was formed to investigate the case. After getting confirmed through the autopsy report of the duo’s death in accidents, police teams questioned some truck drivers.
