SRINAGAR: Two terrorists of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit were killed in an overnight encounter on Monday and a civilian was killed during clashes with security forces on Tuesday morning in south Kashmir's Shopian district.
On Monday evening, security forces cordoned off about a dozen villages at
Batamarun in
Wanipora area to flush out the terrorists from their hideouts. A group of three militants, opened fire at the forces that led to an encounter.
While two militants were killed, the third managed to escape. One of the slain terrorists was identified as
Tanveer Ahmad Bhat of Batamarun, Shopian. The other is a Pakistani, sources said. Two civilians were injured in the crossfire. They were immediately hospitalised. Three residential houses and three cowsheds were also razed to the ground, police said.
On Tuesday morning, protesters tried to disrupt the counter-insurgency operation and pelted stones on security personnel, following which, the forces opened fire. A woman from Batamarun was killed in the firing while 17 others were injured in the clash.
