Gaibandha MP Golam Mostafa laid to rest

Gaibandha: Golam Mostafa Ahmed, member of parliament from Gaibandha-1 constituency, was laid to eternal rest at his family graveyard at Chandipur village in Sundarganj upazila Tuesday evening.

Earlier, his third namaz-e-janaza was held on the ground of Chandipur High School of the upazila after Maghrib prayer.

His second janaza was also held on the ground of Central Eidgah of Gaibandha district town in the afternoon around 3.00 pm after his body was flown to Gaibandha Shah Abdul Hamid Stadium after completing first janaza at South Plaza of Jatiya Sangshad Bhaban at 12 noon.

On November 18, Golam Mostafa along with his three companions were seriously injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Tangail Highway at Delduar Upazila of Tangail district while he was going to Dhaka in his microbus from his village home.

After the accident, he was taken to Mirzapur Upazila Health Complex and later, he was shifted to Tangail General Hospital. As his condition was deteriorated, he was admitted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka where he was kept in life support.

After undergoing treatment at the CMH for one month, he breathed his last there about 7.30 am on Tuesday.

He left behind his wife and two daughters to mourn his death.

As the news of his death spread, a pall of gloom descended on his constituency and other parts of the district.

At first, his body was taken to South Plaza of Jatiya Sangshad Bhaban where first namaz-e-janaza was held.

As his body reached Gaibandha, deputy speaker of the Jatiya Sangshad Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah, whip Mahabub Ara Begum Gini, lawmakers Dr. Younus Ali Sarker and Principal Abul Kalam Azaad received the body.

Organizing secretary of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) BM Mozammel Hossain and former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League Mahmud Hasan Ripon handed over the body to them.

Gaibandha Deputy commissioner Gautam Chandra Pal, superintendent of police Mashrukur Rahman Khaled, general secretary of AL district unit Abu Bakar Siddique, and other leaders and workers were present at the stadium.

Later, his body was taken to his village home at Chandipur and he was laid down to eternal rest at his family graveyard this evening after holding two janazas at Gaibandha town and Chandipur High School ground.

A large number of people including government officials, political leaders, public representatives, and well wishers participated in the janaza.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed their profound shock and grief at the death of Golam Mostafa.

Golam Mostafa Ahmed was elected MP on March 22 this year after the death of Manzurul Islam Liton, MP.
