Christopher Johnson, the man arrested after a shootout with a police SWAT team last week, has been charged in federal court.
His charges in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana are possession with intent to distribute; discharging a firearm during a crime; and felon in possession of a firearm. If convicted, he faces potential sentences of 10 years to life on two counts and up to 10 years on the third count.
On Wednesday, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers were serving a search warrant in the 2100 block of Spann Avenue northeast of the Fountain Square neighborhood. Detectives believed the suspect, later identified as 39-year-old Johnson, was armed and dangerous.
After police broke through a door, IMPD said, Johnson fired at the officers, hitting IMPD officer Arthur Sibley in the arm. Sibley has since been released from the hospital. He is listed as injured on duty.

Five officers returned fire, striking Johnson multiple times, police said. He was last listed in critical but stable condition and remains hospitalized.
The federal criminal complaint contains details about why officers targeted the house with a search warrant.
Officers discovered 15 grams of heroin, 75 grams of cocaine and 30 grams of marijuana in Johnson's pockets, according to the criminal complaint.
Officers also found a .38-caliber revolver in the kitchen surrounded by blood, according to the federal complaint. An IMPD news release noted that officers recovered at least three other guns and cash.
Police also arrested four others in the home, ages 34, 20, 16 and 14.
An attorney had not yet been listed for Johnson on Monday morning.
Johnson also faces additional state charges. Marion County prosecutors charged Johnson with five counts of attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
