Arsenal news: Lazy Alexis Sanchez slammed in damning Philippe Coutinho comparison

IAN WRIGHT has hit out at Alexis Sanchez for “clocking off” and believes selling him in January could benefit Arsenal.

Sanchez’s future appears to be away from Arsenal with talks over renewing his contract at an impasse.

The Chilean wanted to leave in the summer and join Manchester City but was denied the move and has been a frustrated figure at times in an Arsenal shirt this season.

Against Manchester United earlier this month, Sanchez was dispossessed over 30 times as the Gunners were beaten 3-1.

Manager Arsene Wenger has defended the 29-year-old, insisting he remains committed despite his situation.

But Wright believes it is in Arsenal’s best interests to let Sanchez leave and also compared him unfavourably to Philippe Coutinho who wanted to leave Liverpool but despite having his move blocked has 10 goals and seven assists in his last 13 starts.

“Sanchez looks to me like he’s clocked off,” he said on BBC Radio Five Live.

“His attitude is saying a lot about him. If he could have gone in January, the way he’s playing now, I can’t see how that’s gonna hurt Arsenal.

“He’s not playing well enough, he’s not putting in a shift.

Philippe Coutinho appears to have shrugged off the disappointment of not joining Barcelona

“I know Coutinho’s not coming to the end of his contract but Coutinho did want to leave. He made it clear, he put a transfer request in.

“Look at the way he’s playing, look at the way Ozil’s playing. The fact is you’ve got to still put it in.

“It says a lot about him. For people looking in, who are potential buyers, what are they thinking about him and his attitude?”
