GUWAHATI: It was both a new beginning and a bitter sweet ending for the
Army Institute of Nursing (
AIN), Guwahati students as the lamp lighting ceremony of the freshers' batch 2017 and graduation ceremony of the class of 2013 were simultaneously held at
Narangi Cantonment on Monday.
Lt Gen
DS Ahuja,
GOC 101 Area, Prof A K Adhikari, principal-cum-chief superintendent of
Gauhati Medical College and Hospital as well as Maj Gen Arun Kumar, GOC 51 Sub Area, graced the function.
Lt Gen DS Ahuja said that now, nursing education meant much more than merely acquiring knowledge. "It is acquisition of knowledge and skills in patient care, keeping in mind the technological developments as well as building character,inculcating cultural sensitivity and improving employability of our future nursing leaders," the GOC said.
Adhikari said career in nursing calls for highly professional ethics, sensitivity and compassion towards patients. The highlights of the ceremony was the induction of the freshers' batch into the profession of nursing with the Lamp Lighting ceremony and administration of
Nurses Pledge by Col R Jayanthi, Principal Matron, 151 Base Hospital.
Mohini Ben received the COAS All Round Best Student award and
Shital Kumari Pun received the GOC 101 Rolling Trophy for the Best Student in the Clinical Field.
