MoU to save Assam’s rivers

GUWAHATI: The Assam government on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Isha Foundation for the conservation and rejuvenation of rivers in Assam.

Assam became the sixth state in the country to sign a MoU with the non-profit, spiritual organization. CM Sarbananda Sonowal, who was present for the occasion, said, "The Assamese civilisation has been enriched by Brahmaputra and Barak and saving these great rivers is one of the prime objectives of the state government. These rivers are the lifelines of our state — they have been sustaining our economy and influencing our culture."


Sonowal thanked Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, the founder of Isha Foundation, for focusing on the conservation and preservation of the rivers of Assam. He also praised Sadhguru's nationwide 'Rally for Rivers' campaign .


Sadhuguru said, "It is the solemn responsibility of every citizen of this country to protect the rivers and conserve the environment for our future generations. Isha Foundation has been working towards involving the community in conservation of rivers and nearly 162 million people have joined our 'Rally for Rivers' campaign."
