Though the Congress party could not reach the required numbers for forming the Government in Gujarat, it gave a good fight to the Bharatiya Janata Party, commented Chhattisgarh In-charge of All India Congress Committee P.L. Punia on the results of assembly elections held in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

He was on visit of the State on Monday to participate in several programmes organised to mark the birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ghasidas.

Talking to reporters at Swami Vivekanand Airport, Punia said in upcoming Assembly polls in Chhattisgarh, the performance of the party would be improved under the leadership of new AICC Chief Rahul Gandhi.

Putting an end to the speculation that Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) President Bhupesh Baghel would be called to New Delhi and would be given responsibility in AICC, Punia said that the organisation in the state would continue working under leadership of Baghel.

There might be minor changes in the organisation but not the leadership, he clarified.

Punia also greeted the people of Chhattisgarh on birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ghasidas and said that he expects that the people of state would follow the path shown by the saint.
