Dear Sir,
The African National Congress (ANC) elections were tightly fought and although the election results were very close, you was victorious and congratulations on becoming the next ANC president. The country and its citizens truly believe that you have an enormous but achievable task ahead in trying to repair all the damage caused by the previous ANC president and current president of South Africa and all his cronies in government, parastatals and the corporate world.
Corruption, greed, tender fraud, money laundering, sticking hands into government coffers, etc. were the callings of every day and were published extensively in the local and international media. This sunk this country into unimaginable damage and credit rating agencies have repeatedly downgraded South Africa’s credit ratings.
You have been a successful business man and have lead many organizations and companies. Your track record speaks for itself and you need to use your business acumen in these difficult times and craft the best way forward for this beautiful country. Government must be run like a successful company using the same intellectual capital, processes and disciplines.
Sir, you will have to make a prudent call in the best interest of South Africa and its beloved citizens:
With immediate effect recall President Jacob Zuma or he must be requested to resign. “A stitch in time saves nine” – it is better to deal with a problem right now than to wait until later, when it may get even worse and take longer to deal with.
Ensure that the necessary charges are brought against all perpetrators of corruption and they do not escape the long arm of the law.
The government must have zero (0) tolerance against any forms of corruption, be it tender fraud, money laundering, theft out of government coffers, etc.
It must be made clear that all government and parastatal officials will be treated without fear or favour if they are suspected of corruption and the necessary process will be instituted regarding criminal investigations and prosecutions (where applicable).
A retribution fund must be set up and all monies of corruption that are recovered must be deposited into this fund. This includes fines, penalties, etc. These recovered monies of corruption must not be returned to the respective government departments or parastatals as the latest budget distributions should have catered for any shortfalls. The monies in this fund must be used for the four biggest ailing sectors in the economy, education, unemployment, health and housing.
Government officials that are under-performing must be shown the door and replaced. They should not be transferred to other departments as they may cause those successful departments to collapse. If one is inefficient and non-productive, a transfer would not make that person a better and productive employee. Don’t transfer a problem.
All government and parastatal employees must realize that they work for the state and the citizens of this country and they must strictly toe the line. Their indebtedness must be towards South Africa and its citizens and if they cannot give that commitment, then they are in the wrong job. They must resign or be replaced.
I trust that you are entering the festive season with many thoughts and strategies how the year 2018 should commence successfully. The best and most appropriate present for the new-year for South Africa and its beloved citizens is consideration and implementation of the proposals above.
A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you.
Yours sincerely
Mr. Sorna Govender
(A true and concerned South African)
