Police search for suspect in fatal Providence stabbing

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Police are investigating a fatal stabbing that took place on Russo Street Monday night.

Police were called to 62 Russo St. shortly after 9 p.m. and found a male victim with multiple stab wounds. The scene of the stabbing is 62 Russo St. and the victim was a man.

Providence police Detective Maj. David Lapatin said late Monday night that officers were searching for a suspect identified as 28-year-old Nathan Spardello. The police were focusing the search on the city's North End.

In June 2016, a man named Nathan Spardello of Providence fled from the North Providence police while handcuffed and remained on the lam until he turned himself in two weeks later. He had been wanted on a felony shoplifting warrant. It could not be confirmed Monday night that the suspect was the same Nathan Spardello sought by police in Monday's fatal stabbing.
