Over the previous 10 years the level of engagement of MRC with relevant industrial sectors, and support for translational programmes within Universities, have both increased dramatically. As well as strategic discussions ensuring broad alignment around research priorities, and open schemes able to select and fund projects in any areas, MRC is also playing stronger roles in shaping and nurturing particular fields and partnerships within the sector.
Your role is being created to help MRC provide focussed leadership and coordination in high-priority, fast moving areas of applied medical science, in advanced therapeutics and other areas. You will work closely with the Head of Translation and Innovation, and Director of Partnerships and Industry. Though you will also be developing many broader relationships, within MRC / UKRI and beyond, to ensure a rounded view on, for example, basic science, skills, infrastructure, communications, regulation and clinical needs in each area.
You will need:
• A PhD relevant to the work of MRC
• Significant experience working in health research management
• To be strategical minded being able to deliver long term objective in short-term actions
• Proven negotiation and influencing skills whilst working in a politically sensitive environment
• To show proven experience at representing an organisation at a senior level
• An ability to empower, motivate, lead, and develop highly qualified professionals
