Cross Country

Three members of Willow Glen’s cross country teams were named all-Central Coast Section by a five-member selection committee.

Marco Del Canto, a sophomore, was a second-team boys pick. Senior Zach Walker was an honorable-mention boys selection. Madison Yen, a sophomore, was an honorable-mention girls selection.

Soccer

Willow Glen High School’s boys team had a pair of shutouts to improve its overall record to 3-2 last week.

The Rams first beat Lynbrook 2-0 on Dec. 12. Noah Blom scored both of Willow Glen’s goals in the second half, and Finn Gordineer had an assist.

In a 1-0 win over South San Francisco, Blom produced the game-winning goal in the first half.

Lincoln’s boys team did not play last week. It faced Archbishop Mitty on Dec. 20 after this publication went to press.

Willow Glen’s girls team beat Overfelt 5-0 on Dec. 13, then tied Milpitas 1-1 on Dec. 16. Its record is 2-1-2 so far this season.

Lincoln’s girls team has the same record after a 3-0 win over San Jose on Dec. 14 and a 1-0 loss to South San Francisco on Dec. 16.

Running

The 23rd Annual Los Gatos Resolution Run will take place on New Years Day, starting at 9 a.m. at the Los Gatos High School track. The race is 5.0 miles and goes from the Los Gatos track to the top of the Lexington Dam and back using the Los Gatos Creek Trail.

All age divisions are included, and each participant has the option of getting a long-sleeved shirt with race registration. The top five in each division will get medals. Enter either at Athletic Performance (55 W. Main Street in Los Gatos) or at www.raceroster.com.

Softball

Registration for the Los Gatos-Saratoga-Cupertino Girls Fastpitch Softball recreation league is open until January 15 for pre-kindergarten to 8th grade girls. The season runs from early March to early May 2018, with practices and pre-season clinics starting earlier. Register and more info online at lgcsfastpitch.org.

Basketball

The city of Sunnyvale is looking for volunteer basketball coaches for the Sunnyvale Youth Basketball League 2018 season which starts in January. The league is a recreational, non-competitive league for kindergarteners through eighth graders.

Volunteer coaches should have some knowledge of basketball and can commit to two hours per week over the eight-week duration of the season and be over 18 years old. They must be able to run a one-hour practice each week on weekday evenings and coach a one-hour game on Saturdays. The season runs from January through mid-March.

Hoopstarz Basketball

Hoopstarz Basketball will hold winter classes for basketball players of all levels ages 3 to 14 at Bay Club Courtside. You do not need to be a member to enroll your child. Sessions include Parent & Me (ages 3-4), co-ed skills classes (ages 5-7 and 8-14) and Hoopgirlz (girls only ages 8-14). Classes begin on Jan. 21. Volleyball

Registration for 2018 Spring programs in Saratoga and Los Gatos for The United States Youth Volleyball League (USYVL) is now open.

The instructional volleyball league provides boys and girls ages 7-15 the opportunity to learn and play volleyball in a fun, safe and supervised environment.

The eight-week developmental league provides instruction in basic volleyball skills twice per week. The USYVL’s Saratoga league starts April 3 and runs through June 9 at Prospect High School. The USYVL’s Los Gatos league begins April 4 and runs through June 9 at Oak Meadow Park. For the Saratoga league, practices are held on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and games take place on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. For the Los Gatos league, practices are held on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and games are on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
