Nagpur: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said allegations of Nagpur Police demanding 500 free passes from Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) for T20 international match played between India and England at its Jamtha stadium on January 29 would be probed and those found guilty would be punished. He also informed that Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to probe land grab by the mafias in Nagpur would be reconstituted if need be.
His statements came while replying to a starred query by MLAs - Sunil Kedar, Yashomati Thakur, Amit Deshmukh, Harshwardhan Sapkal and Vijay Wadettiwar.

Expressing concern over deteriorating law and order situation in Nagpur city, the members pointed out towards a gruesome murder of a Chandrapur principal Moreshwar Wankhede near Ajni Square.

While admitting that 82 murders took place till November, the CM lauded efforts by the city police for successfully curbing the crime rate. Citing statistics of various incidents, like rape, dacoity, kidnapping, riots, and chain snatching besides murders, taking place under the Nagpur Police Commissionerate this year, he said those were reduced in comparison with last year.

He said the cops nabbed about 170 persons in connection with 82 murders and filed charge-sheets with evidence in 44 of them. The investigations of remaining murders is underway.

"I must congratulate the Nagpur police for splendid job in curbing the crime despite addition of over five lakh population to its jurisdiction due to inclusion of rural police stations. In comparison to crime incidents of 2012-13, 2013-14, those reduced in 2014-15."

Explaining on the success achieved by the SIT for land grabbing cases, Fadnavis, also a South Nagpur MLA, said complaints, as old as 15 years, poured in large numbers. "We've managed to hand over hundreds of lands back to the original owners which were forcefully grabbed by the mafia."

He brought to fore the issue of 'Bharosa Cell', terming it as an "unique initiative" and a "one-stop shop" for all women for redressing their grievances. "This centre set up for resolving crimes against women met with extremely positive response. I would be arranging a visit of all women legislators to this centre soon."

He said, the government had assigned an educational institution to prepare a 'safety perception index'. "They undertook a comprehensive survey and prepared a data of city where it came to fore that crime rate was reduced and people feeling more safer. Crime cases would never end, but what is important is response time sought by your police to crack the case and collecting evidence leading to the convict of accused."

The CM said they tried to decentralize the police force with a view to make it more efficient and inculcate total discipline in it.
