Rose McGowan slaughters Meryl Streep over Harvey Weinstein 'silence'

MERYL Streep has been attacked over her close friendship with Harvey Weinstein.

Actress Rose McGowan, who is best known for her role in Charmed and the first Scream movie, has let rip after hearing how Meryl and other A-listers are planing on wearing all-black clothes at the Golden Globes 2018 Awards in January to make a stand against harassment in Hollywood and highlight gender inequality.

Not holding back, Rose tweeted: "Actresses, like Meryl Streep, who happily worked for The Pig Monster, are wearing black Golden Globes in a silent protest.

"Your silence is the problem. You'll accept a fake award breathlessly and affect no real change. I despise your hypocrisy."

The 'Pig Monster' Rose alludes to is , who earlier this year rocked the globe when women came forward to accuse the movie mogul of sexually harrassing or assaulting them.

To date, 84 people have bravely shared their story, including Asia Argento, Rosanna Arquette, and Rose herself.

Signing off her tweet to Meryl, Rose added: "Maybe you should all wear Marchesa."

This appears to be an apparent dig at , who created the womenswear brand Marchesa in 2004 when she was with Harvey.

CLAIMS: Rosr McGowan claims she was raped by Mr Weinstein

When news broke of the first allegations against Weinstein, it seemed Georgina would remain by his side.

However, on October 10, the London-born fashionista announced she was walking out on their 10-year marriage.

Despite initial whispers that she would also leave the fashion label behind her, reports claim she is due to show off her 2018 autumn collection at New York Fashion Week in February.

In stating that Meryl would "accept a fake award", Rose was commenting on Streep's 2012 win in which she called Weinstein "God".

At the time, Meryl picked up the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for her role in Margaret Thatcher film The Iron Lady.

Hitting back at the claims, Meryl said: "It hurt to be attacked by Rose McGowan in banner headlines this weekend, but I want to let her know I did not know about Weinstein’s crimes, not in the 90s when he attacked her, or through subsequent decades when he proceeded to attack others.

"I wasn’t deliberately silent. I didn’t know. I don’t tacitly approve of rape. I didn’t know.

"I don’t like young women being assaulted. I didn’t know this was happening."

Meanwhile, the BBC have just announced they will be releasing a documentary about the fall of Weinstein.

The 90-minute film, set to air on BBC Two, will feature interviews with the many actresses who have spoken out, as well as various producers, directors and agents, impacted by the scandal.

BBC commissioner Tom McDonald said it would "ask difficult and challenging questions about complicity, the price of silence and the corrosive effects of power".

It is due to air early next year, just as the award season kicks off with the Golden Globes, Oscars, Grammys and SAGs all in January or February of 2018.
