
The whole idea of ‘Vikas’ in India emerged out of the Gujarat model, but recent assembly results of the BJP owned state makes us look at a different picture. The development model that was being boasted about in almost every election, since 2014 Lok Sabha polls, seems coming down to failure in the state it is being most claimed.
The Gujarat model of development that had given a charisma to the image of Narendra Modi has been challenged by the top rivals of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Gujarat assembly elections.
Not being able to reach the 150 magic figures in his own home-state should be considered as the biggest failure of the BJP against Congress. The figures have shown, the Gujarat model that was being projected as a weapon to make a better India has got a big warning from state electoral.
Pushing aside the claims of a handful of former BJP presidents, the fate-makers have shown confidence in the Congress (to an extent). Well, if someone says so, it could be a ‘Hardik Patel factor’.

Though the power goes to the saffron party as usual but the senior leadership has been shaken just as the trust of the Gujaratis over the government.
Congress indeed has boldly challenged the myth of Gujarat being the best performing state in the country and made Amit Shah closely review the poll strategy and the over-confidence in the state. The poll result has projected that BJP’s image in the western state has been dented, losing about a dozen seats and the Congress gaining around 16.
In what could be seen as a see-saw contest (that no doubt kept the audience stick to the news for hours) the state verdict has come out as an alarm for the party leadership in Delhi to get their cards right for the upcoming state assembly polls as well as the 2019 LS elections.
While the entire country is still waiting for ‘that development’, the PM has been claiming since 2014, projecting the Gujarat picture, the statemen have just shown impatience…
