UNGA votes on Palestinian rights draft resolution - FM Al-Maliki

(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RAMALLAH, Dec 19 (KUNA) -- The UN General Assembly will meet Tuesday to vote on a draft resolution concerning the Palestinian rights to decide their own fate, said Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki Tuesday.

Speaking to Palestinian radio Al-Maliki said that the vote today would be the best reaction to the US Veto of an Arab-proposed UNSC resolution concerning the status of Jerusalem.

A request for an urgent session at the UNGA will be proposed as well in a gesture to show global solidarity against the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, said Al-Maliki who indicated that Palestinians would be active on all possible spheres to display rejection to the current status quo in the Middle East.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will visit France in the upcoming days to discuss the French and EU stance on the issue, he added.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian cabinet in Ramallah said that the US Veto against the Arab resolution on Jerusalem would not change the status of the holy city.

It noted that the US role in the peace process right now is very bias and this fact will affect any future efforts for resolving the Israel-Palestinian conflict. (end) ng.gta
