Lights and decorations appeared in the scorched Coffey Park neighborhood of Santa Rosa this weekend, erected during a holiday celebration amid the rubble.

Coffey Park was severely damaged by wildfire two months ago, with whole blocks destroyed, and images of the resultant destruction have circulated widely since. But former residents and other Wine Country community members are determined not to let the disaster rob them of their holiday. Various events and giveaways have been coordinated via a Christmas in Coffey Park Facebook page.

The most recent gathering, a 'Celebration of Hope', ran from Saturday to Sunday evening, according to a Facebook event page. Santa was reportedly in attendance, and visitors from the Contra Costa County city of Oakley brought donated toys for Coffey Park children.

Linda Christopher, who lives south of Santa Rosa in Penngrove, volunteered at the event on Saturday. She then posted several photos of the neighborhood on Facebook, which were later shared by KTVU anchor Frank Somerville.

"I don't want people to forget what our neighbors in Coffey Park are still going through," Christopher said. "They are going to need our support for a long time."

Additional decorating efforts have been led by Red Cross volunteer Ronnie Duvall, as KTVU reported.
