GEORGE TOWN: Police have arrested a 27-year-old suspect in connection with a random shooting incident at a terrace house at Jalan Ismail Che Mat near here in January.
Northeast district police chief ACP Anuar Omar said the man who is on the police wanted list was detained at 8.45am after he surrendered at the district police headquarters.
He however said during initial interrogation, the suspect said he was not involved in the case.
"The case is still under investigation," he said in a statement to the media today.
Anuar added police have also obtained a three-day remand order against the suspect which ends on Dec 21.
It was reported that during the incident on Jan 10 this year, a 48-year-old contractor got the shock of his life when he found bullet casings in front of his home.
The victim was asleep during the incident and initially thought that the noises were caused by fire crackers but only realised later that it was a gun shot directed at his house.
Police then sought close-circuit television camera (CCTV) recordings showing two men on a motorcycle arriving at the scene before one of them fired 14 shots towards the house.
The case is being investigated under Section 39 of the Firearms Act for firing shots at a public area and Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
