Indore: Indian Institute of Management Indore director Rishikesha T Krishnan here on Monday stressed on the need for Indian researchers to focus more on Indian issues rather than global issues.

“Researchers need to focus on issues in India rather than on global issues, as that would help in excellent outcomes,” said Krishnan while addressing inaugural function of the three-day 5th Biennial Indian Academy of Management Conference 2017 that kick-started at IIM Indore on Monday.

The IIM Indore director said that “challenge before all the researchers in India is to be able to do a lot of research work which is contextually relevant as well. His speech was followed by keynote address by former director of IIM Ahmedabad, professor Pradip Khandwalla, who agreed to Krishnan.

“We are global, but we are also Indians; and we need to focus on India and its problems while doing research,” he said. He noted that “Focusing on just economic growth won’t help the nation attain excellence. Unless corporate society focuses on ethical values and education system revamps courses to help students live in real-life situations and work in that environment, development cannot be achieved.”

In her address, IIM Bangalore faculty Vasanthi Srinivasan spoke about the objectives of INDAM and noted how the conference this year had received the highest (350) number of papers, out of which 230 were shortlisted and 180 are being presented. The conference which will witness presence of a large number of experts and keynote speakers from the country as well as abroad, focuses on Indian insights to understand and manage the complex interplay among the individuals, institutions and innovations.

The objective of the conference is to promote, propagate and diffuse wisdom pertaining to management and auxiliary discipline that have the potential to transform the world of academician and practitioners.
