5-month baby dies a tragic death in city

A five-month old boy died a tragic death in city's Dayaganj area on Monday morning after falling from his mother's lap following muggers' attack.

Baby Arafat, son of Shah Alam and Aklima of Shariatpur district, declared dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) at about 7am.

The couple came to Dhaka from Shariatpur with their sick elder son Al Amin Monday morning.

Getting off the launch at Sadarghat, Shah Alam went straight to Shishu Hospital in Shyamoly while Aklima alongwith her younger son was heading towards her sister's place at Shanir Akhra by a rickshaw.

"As the rickshaw reached at Dayaganj, 2/3 muggers snatched away my bag. At that time, my son also fell off my lap onto the road, leaving him critically injured," said the grief-stricken mother of the toddler.

DMCH police camp in-charge SI Bachchu Mia said the baby was brought to the hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
