Pune: Six gold chains worth Rs 4.55 lakh were snatched in different parts of the city between Saturday and Sunday.

Of the six chains, four were snatched within a span of two hours in Kothrud, Wakad and Hinjewadi on Saturday. The other two snatchings occurred in Atulnagar, Warje, and Left Bhusari Colony within a span of 15 minutes on Sunday evening.

An official from the crime branch of the Pune police said police commissioner Rashmi Shukla has taken these incidents seriously and has directed the crime branch to initiate steps to curb such cases.

A meeting of the crime branch officials was called on Monday. "We have decided to carry out sudden nakabandi operations on city roads. We will minutely check the suspected persons and their vehicles during the nakabandi," he said, adding that police have also started rounding up chain-snatchers on police records.

"We are working on some clues," he said.
