The Mumbaikar’s debut match as captain did not pan out in the way he would have liked as the Indian batting collapsed like a pack of cards against Sri Lanka in Dharamsala. India were bowled out for 112 after they were reeling at 29/7 at point and eventually lost the match by 7 wickets.
The captain though upped the ante in the second match and scored a record third double century (208*) against the same opposition in Mohali. India won the game by a mammoth 141 runs to level the series.
In the decider in Visakhapatnam, Rohit could not keep provide an encore, but his teammates Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer took India over the line by 8 wickets.
India will now play Sri Lanka for a three-match T20I series beginning Wednesday at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack.
