Himachal Pradesh elections results: Modi-Shah BJP snatches power in another Congress state

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, who returned to Shimla after 18 days, dismissed the exit poll results.
According to the latest leads, BJP looks all set to dethrone Congress from the hill state. Catch all the live updates:

  • Vikramditya Singh, son of Himachal chief minister Virbhadra Singh, wins Shimla rural seat
  • Himachal BJP president Satpal Singh Satti loses election from Una sea
  • Congress candidate Harshwardhan Chauhan wins Shillai assembly seat in Himachal
  • Senior BJP leader Gulab Singh Thakur,loses to independent candidate Prakash Rana in Himachal's Joginder Nagar.
  • While BJP is winning in Himachal, some of its top leaders including Prem Kumar Dhumal, Gulab Singh Thakur, Indu Goswami and Satpal Singh Satti are trailing.
  • BJP's chief ministerial candidate PK Dhumal is trailing by around 3000 votes from Sujanpur constituency. Congress candidate Rajinder Rana is leading from Sujanpur.
  • Trend on 38 seats shows BJP leading in 20 seats, Congress in 14 seats and Independents in 4 seats
  • Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh is leading from Arki.
  • In Dharamshala seat, BJP is trailing as Congress candidate Sudhir Sharma is ahead of rival Kishan Kapoor.
  • In Karanj seat of Surat, Pravin Ghoghari of BJP is leading with 7,000 votes.
  • CM Virbhadra's son Vikramaditya is leading by 1316 votes rural Shimla.
  • Congress wins Kasumpti seat in Himachal Pradesh with its candidate Anirudh Singh defeating BJP's Vijay Jyoti by a margin of 9,397 votes
  • BJP's CM candidate Prem Kumar Dhumal trailing by 1,709 votes from Sujanpur although the party is set for a comeback in the state.

While the Congress dismissed the exit poll results, which predicted a BJP victory, the saffron party expressed confidence that their performance would better projections.

The election is essentially seen as a battle between the two veterans, who have taken turns to be the chief minister in Himachal since 1993.

Himachal Pradesh has 68 assembly seats and a party needs 35 or more to cross the halfway mark and form the government.



Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, who returned to Shimla after 18 days, dismissed the exit poll results.


The fate of 337 candidates including Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and his predecessor Prem Kumar Dhumal will be known in a short while from now.
