A YOUNG driver has blamed his actions on the downhill descent after he was caught travelling at 30 km/h over the limit.

Just after noon on Saturday police from the Mittagong Highway patrol were conducting speed enforcement on the Hume as part of operation Safe Arrival 2017.

At that time the B double was detected travelling north at 132km/h, which they shortly intercepted.

The 20 year old driver from Queensland told police stated that he knew he was limited to 100km/h however was blamed the hill and other vehicles for his excessive speed.

During the stop police also discovered numerous log book breaches detected with infringements issued for offences such as, Class C exceed 100km/h over 20km/h, Driver not record driver information after work, Driver not record prescribed information in written work diary, Use unregistered trailer on road. Defect issued to the prime mover for inoperative speed limiter.

Both the A&B trailers were registered in Victoria however both were not displaying any registration labels which classes both trailers as being unregistered in NSW.

At the time both trailers were loaded with soft drinks.

Multiple infringements notices were issued to driver and defect issued to owner of vehicle.

Driver will need to present Truck & Trailers to RMS for defect clearance & further inspection.
