A senior police official was killed during the clashes with the militants in northwestern Badghis province of Afghanistan, the local officials said Monday.
Provincial police chief Abdul Rauf Taj said the district police chief of Aab Kamari Abdul Rasool lost his life during the clashes with the militants late on Sunday night.
He said Rasool was on his way to support the Afghan security forces in response to the militants attack on a security post in Aab Kamari.
Taj further added that another also lost his life after the militants laid an ambush on their way.
The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far.
This comes as the anti-government armed militants have stepped up attacks against the security forces in some restive parts of the country during the recent days.
The militants targeted the Afghan security forces in coordinated explosions in Kandahar city late on Sunday night leaving four policemen wounded while a coordinated attack on security posts in Helmand left at least 14 policemen dead.
