The Advisory Committee for a John Humphrey Plummer Professorship seeks to appoint a talented individual to lead the development of cross-disciplinary research that links biological science or medicine with physical science or technology. It is anticipated that the person appointed will take up appointment on 1 October 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

From the first three appointments in 1932, John Humphrey Plummer professors have record of distinguished contributions across the natural sciences and mathematics. Holders have included R Fowler, DR Hartree, JE Lennard-Jones, HC Longuet-Higgins, AB Pippard, EK Rideal, and Nobel laureates Sir Alan Hodgkin and Sir John Gurdon.

Candidates will have an outstanding record of world-leading research in a field that breaks down the traditional barriers between the "wet" and "dry" disciplines in science, technology and medicine, as described above. They will have the vision, leadership, experience and enthusiasm to build on current strengths in maintaining and developing a leading research presence.

In addition to research, standard professorial duties may include teaching, contribution to clinical service delivery, examining, supervision and administration. The Professor will be based in Cambridge. A competitive salary will be offered.
